Recently, Singapore Port welcomed a special batch of steel cargo – S960Q High Tensile Steel Plates custom-produced by GNEE Steel. These steel plates will be used in the manufacturing of core structures for local high-end marine engineering equipment. The 100 tons of steel plates delivered this time are the result of GNEE Steel's special research to tackle the customer's customization challenges. From the finalization of the technical plan to the ultimate shipment, the entire process took only 22 days, successfully addressing the customer's dual pain points of "high-difficulty customization + short delivery cycle" and winning high praise from the Singaporean customer.
The cooperating customer is a leading marine equipment manufacturer in Southeast Asia. For the deepwater drilling platform project it undertook this time, a batch of S960Q high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel plate with a thickness of 80mm was required. The customization difficulty of this specification of steel plate far exceeds that of conventional products, mainly reflected in three aspects:First, the large thickness easily leads to internal porosity defects during the rolling process;Second, it needs to meet the low-temperature impact toughness requirement of -60℃;Third, the customer clearly specified that the flatness error of the steel plate should be ≤2mm/m. All three indicators have reached the international advanced level.
Previously, the customer had contacted multiple suppliers in Japan and South Korea, but either they refused the order due to the high technical difficulty, or the delivery cycle exceeded 45 days, which could not meet the project schedule requirements.
When the customer found GNEE Steel through an exhibition, our technical team immediately organized a special seminar. To address the rolling challenges of the 80mm-thick S960Q High Tensile Steel Plates, we adopted the "stepwise heating + segmental rolling" process, precisely controlling the billet heating temperature between 1200-1250℃. During the rolling process, the rolling force was adjusted in real-time through a computer system to avoid internal stress concentration. To improve low-temperature toughness, alloying elements such as nickel and molybdenum were added during the molten steel smelting stage, and quenched and tempered treatment (quenching + high-temperature tempering) was simultaneously applied to ensure that the impact energy of the steel plate is ≥40J at -60℃. In response to the flatness requirement, a high-precision straightener was specially commissioned, and laser detection was performed after each straightening until the error fully met the standard.

During the production process, the customer's technical representative visited GNEE Steel's production base in person. When witnessing the non-destructive testing of the S960Q high-strength fine-grained steel plate and seeing that the screen clearly showed no internal defects, he stated on the spot: "I previously had concerns about the high-end customization capabilities of Chinese steel mills, but now seeing the production process and test data with my own eyes has completely dispelled my doubts." To the customer's pleasant surprise, on the 10th day of production, they suddenly requested an additional 20 tons of steel plates of the same specification while keeping the overall delivery time unchanged. In response to this temporary demand, we immediately adjusted the production plan, put the standby production line into use, and optimized the process connection, ultimately ensuring that all steel plates were produced on schedule.
In the shipment link, considering that S960Q High Tensile Steel Plates are high-precision products, GNEE Steel adopted the packaging method of "custom wooden pallets + anti-rust film wrapping". Each steel plate was affixed with a clear label indicating information such as material, specification, and batch number. After the goods arrived in Singapore, the customer wrote in the acceptance report: "All indicators of GNEE Steel's S960Q high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel plate meet the requirements, and the packaging is intact. Such a partner is worthy of long-term trust."
The successful delivery of the S960Q High Tensile Steel Plates this time not only demonstrates GNEE Steel's technical strength in the field of high-end high-strength steel plate customization but also breaks the monopoly of foreign suppliers in this field.
