Special Steel
Special Steel Manufacturers
Gnee Steel (tianjin) Co., Ltd carries a deep inventory of high strength low alloy steel plate as well as high strength low alloy steel plate steel plate. HSLA boasts a higher strength, lower weight and good machinability and ductility compared to conventional mild carbon steel grades.
high strength low alloy steel plate structural steels are manufactured to meet specific mechanical properties, such as hardness, strength, corrosion resistance and environmental durability, making HSLA steels. While certified high strength low alloy steel plate steel grades have specific chemical compositions, engineers refer to HSLA mechanical properties over chemical composition

Benefits of Special Steel
Better toughness over other varieties
This promotes resistance to cracking and impact.
Higher strength-to-weight ratio
The alloy composition, when optimized, makes sure that the manufactured products offer maximum strength. But even then, it does not add weight to the products.
Resistance to high temperature
It helps to keep stability and strength even when exposed to extreme range of temperatures.
Better wear resistance
The especially composed alloy elements help to cut down on abrasion and wear.
Unmatched machinability
This allows for better fabrication.
Less chances of distortion
This makes for minimal distortion even when a heat treatment is on.
Applications of Special Steel
In the fabrication of bearings such as ball bearings or roller bearings, the enhanced properties offered by Special Steel make them well-suited for sensitive applications, such as:
Food and Beverage
Special Steel – Such as AISI 4440C stainless steel – Are used in bearings for food processing equipment because they can be easily cleaned and offer high corrosion resistance while maintaining durability at high and low temperatures. TC2 grease-free bearings may also be used if a lubricant-free product is more suitable for the application.
Chemical Industry
Special Steel is selected for bearings used in chemical processing due to its ability to resist acids, such as chlorine gas, dry chlorine, ammonium sulfate, caustic soda, and others. This specialty steel can be used in acidic or alkaline environments.
Severe Environments
Due to the high corrosion resistance, superior stability, high strength, and resistance at high and low temperatures, Special Steel are well suited for bearings used in many types of severe environments. Where standard bearings may fail, the properties of specialty steels offer high performance.

Type of Special Steel
Carbon steels
Carbon steel is classified into three subgroups based on the amount of carbon in the metal:
Low carbon steel grades, or mild steel grades, contain up to 0.3% carbon. They are known for their excellent ductility, weldability, and malleability, making them ideal for structural applications and everyday products.
Medium carbon steel grades, with 0.3–0.6% carbon. They balance strength and flexibility and are often used in automotive components and machinery parts.
High carbon steel grades exceed 0.6% carbon. They are significantly harder and stronger but less ductile, commonly utilized in cutting tools and high-strength wires.

Alloy steels
Alloy steels are made by combining steel with additional alloying elements such as nickel, copper, chromium and/or aluminum. Combining these elements improves the strength, ductility, corrosion resistance and machinability of the steel. These types of steel are available in various steel grades to meet different performance requirements, ranging from high-strength structural uses to applications requiring enhanced wear resistance.
Stainless steels
Stainless steel grades are alloyed with 10–20% chromium along with nickel, silicon, manganese, and carbon. Because of their increased capacity to survive adverse weather, these steels have phenomenally high corrosion resistance and are safe to use in outdoor construction. Stainless steel grades are also commonly used in electrical devices.
Tool steels
Tool steels, as the name suggests, excel in cutting and drilling equipment. The presence of tungsten, molybdenum, cobalt and vanadium helps improve heat resistance and general durability. These types of steel are specifically engineered to withstand high temperatures and repeated stress, making them ideal for industrial applications. And because they hold their shape even under heavy use, they are the preferred material for most hand tools. Learn how tool steel is made here!
