ASTM A283 Grade D is a low to intermediate tensile strength carbon steel plate for general structural applications, with a specified minimum yield strength of 33 ksi. It is suitable for welding and has good machinability, making it useful for items like anchor bolts, roofing, and structural components.

A283 Grade D steel plates furnished shall conform to the requirements of the current of specification a6/a6m. In the process, A283 Grade D shall be made by one or more of following processes: open hearth, basic oxygen or electric furnace.
A283 steel grade covers four grades in A283 Grade A, A283 Grade B, A283 Grade C, and A283 Grade D of carbon steel plates of structural quality for general application.
