Key Limitations & Applications
Thickness Limits: While Class 1 and 2 plates can be produced up to 12 inches (300 mm) thick, Class 3 plates are typically limited to a maximum thickness of 2.5 inches (65 mm).
Applications: It is primarily utilized for high-pressure welded boilers, petrochemical reactors, and support structures in energy production where higher strength-to-weight ratios are required.
Weldability: Despite its high strength, it maintains good weldability; however, it requires precise preheating (150–200°C) and post-weld heat treatment (620–650°C) to prevent cracking and restore toughness.
