The ASTM A537 specification is the Standard Specification for Pressure Vessel Plates, Heat-Treated, Carbon-Manganese-Silicon Steel used in the applications of fusion welded pressure vessels and structures.
Typical applications are pressure vessels designed for moderate and lower-temperature service requiring excellent notch toughness as well as API 650 and API 620 storage tanks. Class 1 material is available as Normalized and Class 2 is available as Quenched & Tempered plates.
A537 Class 2 Steel Plate is a material specifically designed for use in pressure vessels and Boiler. The a537 Class 2 Plate is heat treated using tempered and quenched methods and other material used for manufacturing these plates has yield strength, higher Tensile Strength, and corrosion resistance. The raw material is well tested and inspected and used according to the international quality standard.
ASTM A537 carbon steel pressure vessel plates are widely used in the construction of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage tanks. The plates can be furnished in three classes (Class 1, Class 2, Class 3) according to different heat treatment conditions and minimum yield strength requirements. The main constituents of LPG are propane and butane, which are usually stored at the design temperature as low as -45°C. The LPG tanks can be furnished in spherical or cylindrical shape.
Steel plates under this specification are available in three classes classified according to the different heat treatment: Class 1 (normalized), Class 2 (quenched and tempered) and Class 3 (quenched and tempered). The maximum thickness of plates furnished under this specification is 4 in. [100mm] for Class 1 and 6 in. [150mm] for Class 2 and Class 3.
