EN 10028 – P460 NH/NL1/NL2
P460NH, so called for having a minimum yield strength of 460 MPa, is is a high quality pressure vessel steel grade for use in boiler and pressure vessel fabrication. It is a normalised fine grain steel with good weldability characteristics.
Other grade types include
NL1 – is ideal for use in low temperatures
NL2 – is ideal for use in especially low temperatures
P460NH is also used in sour gas applications where the steel will be HIC Tested to gauge the materials susceptibility to hydrogen induced cracking.

Chemical Reaction Vessels
P460 NH/NL1/NL2 Boiler and Pressure Vessel Steel Plate is used in synthesis reactions (such as ammonia synthesis towers in fertilizer plants and polymerization reactors in chemical plants). It needs to withstand high temperatures and pressures (e.g., the ammonia synthesis tower operates at a pressure of 30MPa and a temperature of 450℃) and medium corrosion (such as hydrogen and acid gases) to ensure no leakage or structural failure occurs during the reaction process.
Petrochemical Storage Tanks and Towers
P460 NH/NL1/NL2 Low Temperature Pressure Vessel Steel Plate is used in storage tanks for crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as well as rectification towers and absorption towers in petroleum refining: normal temperature and pressure storage tanks (such as crude oil tanks); low-temperature storage tanks (such as LNG storage tanks, with temperatures as low as -162℃) require steel plates with excellent low-temperature toughness to avoid brittle fracture of steel at low temperatures; high-pressure hydrogenation towers (petrochemical hydrofining process).
Heat Exchange Vessels
P460 NH/NL1/NL2 High-quality Boiler Steel Plate is used in equipment for medium heat exchange (such as shell-and-tube heat exchangers and plate heat exchangers). Their shells and tube sheets need to withstand alternating hot and cold shocks, ensure fatigue resistance, and avoid weld cracking caused by frequent temperature changes.
Metallurgical Industry
The "blast furnace hot blast stove" in steel plants (which stores high-temperature hot air, with a pressure of 0.5-1.5MPa and a temperature of 1200℃) uses high-temperature resistant P460 NH/NL1/NL2 hot-rolled plate for its shell; the "autoclave" in non-ferrous metal smelting (such as the leaching autoclave in hydrometallurgical copper smelting) needs to be resistant to acid corrosion, and P460 NH/NL1/NL2 pressure vessel steel plate is commonly used.
