S355J2 and S355J2W are high-strength structural steels with the same minimum yield strength (355 MPa), but the key difference is S355J2W is a weathering steel (EN 10025-5) with added alloying elements (Cu, Cr, Ni, etc.) for enhanced atmospheric corrosion resistance, forming a protective rust-like patina, while S355J2 (EN 10025-2) is a standard non-alloy structural steel, needing coatings for protection, making S355J2W ideal for exposed architectural and heavy outdoor structures, whereas S355J2 suits general construction.

S355J2 Steel
Type: Non-alloy structural steel.
Key Feature: Good weldability, high strength (min 355 MPa yield).
Corrosion Resistance: Standard, requires painting/coating.
Impact Test: J2 means 27 Joules at 20°C (room temp).
Applications: General construction, bridges, machinery frames, tanks.
S355J2W Steel (Weathering Steel)
Type: Structural steel with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance (EN 10025-5).
Key Feature: Forms a stable, protective patina (rust layer) when exposed to weather, eliminating painting needs.
Alloys: Contains Copper (Cu), Chromium (Cr), Nickel (Ni).
Impact Test: Also has J2 (27J at 20°C) and good low-temp toughness.
Applications: Architectural facades, sculptures, bridges, chimneys, railway wagons, outdoor art/furniture.
