BV D420 and BV E420 are both high-strength shipbuilding steel plates designated by Bureau Veritas (BV), featuring a minimum yield strength of 420 MPa. The primary difference lies in their impact toughness: BV D420 is tested at -20° C, while BV E420 is tested at a more rigorous -40° C.

Key Differences:
Impact Toughness (Charpy V-Notch):
BV D420: Guaranteed impact energy at -20° C.
BV E420: Guaranteed impact energy at -40° C.
Application:
BV E420 is used in colder environments or more critical structural areas requiring better low-temperature performance compared to D420.
