Difference between ABS AH32 and CCS AH32 steel plate

Dec 26, 2025 Leave a message

ABS AH32 and CCS AH32 are essentially the same high-strength, hot-rolled marine steel grade, used for shipbuilding and offshore structures, offering good weldability and toughness, with "ABS" referring to the American Bureau of Shipping and "CCS" to the China Classification Society, both certifying its suitability for demanding marine environments. Both standards ensure similar mechanical properties, like a minimum yield strength around 315 MPa, for building ship hulls and platforms.

Key Characteristics

Type: High-tensile strength, hot-rolled shipbuilding steel.

Applications: Hulls of ships, offshore oil rigs, docks, and other marine structures.

Strength: Good tensile and yield strength, with ABS AH32 having a minimum tensile strength around 315 MPa (46 KSI) and yield strength of 34 KSI (235 MPa).

Properties: Excellent weldability, processing properties, and corrosion resistance for marine conditions.

Equivalents: ABS AH32 is equivalent to CCS AH32, BVAH32, NV A32, and others, indicating international recognition of the grade.

Comparison

ABS (American Bureau of Shipping): Certifies steel for marine use, with AH32 being a higher strength grade.

CCS (China Classification Society): Also certifies shipbuilding steel, with AH32 denoting its specific strength level.

Interchangeability: For practical purposes in shipbuilding, these grades from different societies are often interchangeable due to standardized strength and quality requirements.
