Ship Steel Product Description
Marine grade steel is a structural alloy steel standardized by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for use in the shipbuilding industry. This group of alloy steels is engineered to be stronger and able to withstand harsh marine conditions. ABS steels are produced in normal strength and two grades of high strength specifications. Normal strength ABS steel is produced in a variety of grades including ABS Grade A, B, D and E. High strength ABS steel is produced in two grades of high strength. High strength ABS steel is produced in six different strength grades including AH32, DH32, EH32, AH36, DH36 and EH36 grades.
Offshore grade steels are structural alloy steels standardized by the American Petroleum Institute (API) for use in welded construction of marine and offshore structures. This group of alloy steels is designed for high yield strength and improved fatigue load performance. The refined chemistry provides excellent welding characteristics, and secondary heat treating reduces residual stresses, increases ductility, and improves notch toughness. The API grades are produced under standardized conditions of API 2H-50 and a thermo-mechanically controlled process (TMCP) of API 2W-50.
Marine and offshore grades are produced and certified to specifications of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) and the American Petroleum Institute (API).
