ASTM A572 High Strength Steel I Beam
A572-50 steel H beam are widely used in construction applications because of their high strength per unit weight. Low levels of alloying elements such as niobium and vanadium optimise strength and atmospheric corrosion properties, and with a yield strength of up to 50,000 ksi, A572-50 I-beams are replacing ordinary carbon steel I-beams such as A36, which require thickening to meet strength requirements.
Other grades of ASTM 572 H shaped steel are available, such as 42, 55, and 60.
