ASTM A285 specification is the Standard Specification for Pressure Vessel Plates, Carbon Steel, Low- and Intermediate-Tensile Strength intended for fusion-welded pressure vessels. Three grades having different strength levels are available in thicknesses up to 2", inclusively.

 

What is the difference between A285 and A36 steel?

A285 Grade C has low to medium tensile strength between 380 to 515 MPa, whereas the tensile strength of A36 material ranges between 400 to 500 Mpa. This is due to the variation in their chemical composition.
