SA662 Grade C steel plate is a carbon-manganese-silicon pressure vessel plate for medium and low temperature service. It is a high-quality steel plate widely used in low-temperature welded pressure vessels. With excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, it has been extensively applied in industries such as petroleum, chemical engineering, power plants, and boilers.
Interpretation of Grade Designation

SA: American Standard Pressure Vessel Plate (Identification for ASTM standard pressure vessel steel).
662: Grade serial number, associated with material properties but not a direct strength value.
Gr.C: Quality grade C, with an impact test temperature of -30℃, suitable for lower-temperature environments.
Core Characteristics
Application: Medium and low temperature pressure vessels (environments at -30℃ and above).
Advantages: High strength, low-temperature toughness, and fatigue resistance, meeting harsh working conditions.
Delivery Condition
- All Grade A steel plates, and Grade B and Grade C steel plates with a thickness exceeding 40mm shall be normalized.
- Grade B and Grade C steel plates with a thickness of 40mm or less are usually supplied in the as-rolled condition. They can also be supplied with normalization for stress relief treatment, or normalization plus stress relief treatment.
Application Fields
Petrochemical Industry: Used in the manufacturing of reactors, heat exchangers, separators, spherical tanks, oil and gas tanks, liquefied gas tanks, etc. It can ensure the strength and stability of equipment in low-temperature environments and resist the pressure and corrosion of media.
Power Industry: Applicable for the drum of power station boilers and the pressure vessel of nuclear reactors, etc. It can withstand high temperature, high pressure and low-temperature working condition changes, ensuring the safe operation of power equipment.
Other Fields: In hydropower stations, it is used to manufacture high-pressure water pipes, turbine volutes, etc. It still maintains excellent mechanical properties under low-temperature conditions, guaranteeing the reliability of water conservancy facilities.
Beyond A662/SA662 hot-rolled plate, we have a diverse range of steel plates, as shown in the table below: high-strength low-alloy plates for equipment lightweighting, wear-resistant plates to reduce maintenance costs, weather-resistant plates to extend outdoor component lifespans, and marine plates for ensuring ship safety. If you're interested in any of these steel plate types, we are happy to discuss your needs with you.
