08Ni3DR steel plate is a special steel for ultra-low temperature pressure vessels, featuring excellent low-temperature performance and mechanical properties. It is widely used in fields such as chemical industry, petroleum, and natural gas.
I. Basic Information

Meaning of the grade:
"08" indicates that the carbon (C) content is ≤0.08%;
"Ni3" indicates that the nickel (Ni) content is 3.25%-3.70%;
"DR" is the abbreviation of the pinyin initials of Low-Temperature Pressure Vessel.
II. Chemical Composition
Main elements:
- Carbon (C): ≤0.10%
- Nickel (Ni): 3.25%-3.70%
- Silicon (Si): 0.15%-0.35%
- Manganese (Mn): 0.30%-0.80%
- Phosphorus (P): ≤0.012%-0.015%
- Sulfur (S): ≤0.005%
- Molybdenum (Mo): ≤0.12%
- Vanadium (V): ≤0.05%
Other alloying elements (such as copper, Cu) can improve weldability and toughness.
III. Performance Characteristics
Low-Temperature Toughness
The impact temperature can reach -104℃ (up to -107℃ in quenched and tempered state), effectively resisting low-temperature brittle fracture, and suitable for environments from -70℃ to -101℃.
Strength and Hardness
Yield strength ≥320MPa, tensile strength 490-620MPa, elongation after fracture ≥21%-22%.
Corrosion Resistance
It has excellent corrosion resistance to various media (such as methanol, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide), which is similar to that of low-carbon steel.
Weldability
It has excellent weldability and can meet the requirements of complex welding processes.
IV. Application Fields
It is mainly used in the manufacture of ultra-low temperature pressure vessels, such as methanol washing towers, hydrogen sulfide concentrating towers, liquefied gas tanks, petroleum gas cylinders, etc.
V. Standards and Processes
Executive Standard: GB/T3531-1996 (Steel for Low-Temperature Pressure Vessels);
Heat Treatment: Normalizing + tempering or quenching + tempering processes are usually adopted; for thickness ≤12mm, double normalizing can be used.
