XAR500 wear-resistant steel plate – a high-hardness abrasion-resistant steel product developed and manufactured by ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG (Germany). Its equivalent Chinese national standard material grade is NM500.

What is AR500 steel?
AR500 steel plate is chemically similar to AR400 steel plate, except the hardness range is higher and it has more carbon and manganese than AR400. These elemental differences help the steel achieve a higher surface hardness. To be classified as AR500, the hardness needs to clock in between 477 BHN and 550 BHN.

AR500 Wear Resistant Plate Details
AR500 steel has high hardness and wear resistance due to the high carbon component and other chemical alloys contained in the steel. However, the formability and strength of AR500 steel is reduced due to the addition of higher carbon content.AR500 wear-resistant steel has a higher hardness, so its machinability is lower than that of mild steel or high HSLA steel.
To further improve the requirements for use in high abrasive environments, AR500 wear consuming steel plates need to be hardened and tempered. By heat treating the steel, the organisation of the steel can be changed to improve toughness and reduce bitterness.
