16Mo3 steel boiler plate belongs to medium pressure boiler steel plate, which is a kind of European pressure vessel steel plate.
16Mo3 pressure vessel steel plate is normally delivered in normalised or normalised + tempered condition. It can also be delivered without heat treatment if agreed upon at the time of enquiry and order.
The recommended normalising temperature for 16Mo3 pressure vessel plate material in heat treatment is: (890°C - 950°C). When normalising, it is not necessary to keep the whole cross-section warm after it has reached the required temperature and this should normally be avoided.

What effect does sulfur (S) element have on the weldability of 16Mo3 boiler plate?
Sulfur often exists in the form of iron sulfide in steel and is distributed in a network at the grain boundaries, thus significantly reducing the toughness of steel. The eutectic temperature of iron plus iron sulfide is relatively low (985°C). Therefore, during hot processing, since the processing start temperature is generally 1150-1200°C, the eutectic of iron and iron sulfide has already melted, resulting in cracking during processing. This phenomenon is the so-called "thermal embrittlement of sulfur." This property of sulfur causes hot cracking in steel during welding. Therefore, the sulfur content in steel is generally strictly controlled. The main difference between ordinary carbon steel, high-quality carbon steel and high-grade high-quality steel lies in the sulfur and phosphorus content.
