A516Gr55 A516Gr60 Vessel Plate

ASTM A516 Grade 55 and Grade 60 are carbon steel plates for moderate- and lower-temperature pressure vessel service, governed by the ASTM A516/A516M standard. Both grades exhibit excellent notch toughness, weldability, and fatigue resistance.

 

Grade 60 offers higher strength compared to Grade 55 and is ideally suited for petrochemical equipment, reactors, and heat exchangers operating in moderate- or low-temperature pressure environments. In terms of mechanical properties, Gr55 has a tensile strength of approximately 380–515 MPa, while Gr60 ranges from 415–550 MPa.

Technical Provisions for Heat Treatment: ASTM A516 (Gr 55, 60, 65, 70)

Thickness ≤1.5 in. (40 mm):Plates of ASTM A516 Grades 55, 60, 65, and 70 are typically furnished in the as-rolled condition. However, these plates may also be ordered as normalized, stress-relieved, or normalized plus stress-relieved at the purchaser's option.

 

Thickness >1.5in. (40 mm):

Plates exceeding 1.5 in. (40 mm) in thickness shall be normalized.

 

Notch Toughness Requirements:
Unless otherwise specified by the purchaser, plates with a thickness≤1.5 in. (40 mm) shall be normalized when notch toughness requirements are mandated.
