Weathering-resistant steel is a steel that improves atmospheric corrosion resistance by adding a small amount of alloying elements C u, P, C r, N i, etc., so that it forms a protective layer on the metal surface. Weathering structural steel is divided into two categories: high weathering steel and welded weathering steel. High weathering structural steel has better atmospheric corrosion resistance, while welded weathering steel has better welding performance. The atmospheric corrosion resistance of weathering structural steel is 2 to 8 times that of ordinary steel. Therefore, when there is a technical and economic basis, the weathering steel used in the exposed atmospheric environment or a medium erosion medium environment in the important structure, will achieve better results.
Weathering steel plate is characterised by a protective rust layer against atmospheric corrosion, and can be used as a low alloy structural steel for the manufacture of steel structures such as vehicles, bridges, pylons and containers. At the same time, it is rust-resistant, so that the components of corrosion-resistant life extension, thinning and consumption reduction, labour-saving and energy-saving features. Compared with plain carbon steel, weathering steel has better corrosion resistance in the atmosphere. Compared with stainless steel, weathering steel only a trace of alloying elements, such as phosphorus, copper, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, niobium, vanadium, titanium, etc., the total amount of alloying elements accounted for only a few per cent, unlike stainless steel, up to more than ten per cent, so the price of weathering steel is cheaper, cost-effective, worth choosing.
