What is EN10083-3 30MnB5 Alloyed Heat-treatable Steel Plate

Sep 17, 2025 Leave a message

EN 10083-3 30MnB5 is a boron-alloyed, quenched, and tempered steel known for its high strength, wear resistance, and excellent hardenability due to its boron content.

The "30" indicates the approximate carbon content, and the "MnB5" signifies its manganese and boron alloys, making it ideal for heavy-duty agricultural and mining components like plowshares, tillage tools, and wear parts, following heat treatment.

EN10083-3 30MnB5 Alloyed heat-treatable steel Application

Mechanical manufacturing field

EN10083-3 30MnB5 alloy steel plates feature high strength, high wear resistance, and high harden ability, and are widely used for bearings and gears of rotating machinery, as well as valve bodies, pumps and accessories, wheels, bolts, studs, etc.

In addition, EN10083-3 30MnB5 alloy structural steel, with its characteristics of high strength, high toughness, good harden ability and wear resistance, is used in mechanical manufacturing to make gears, connecting rods, tools, molds and other parts.

Automotive and transportation field

EN10083-3 30MnB5 high alloy steel plates are often used in automobile manufacturing and can be made into parts such as crankshafts, axles, and gears, which need to have high strength and toughness. In terms of railway transportation, EN10083-3 30MnB5 alloy steel plates can be used to manufacture related mechanical parts after quenching and tempering.

Aerospace and military field:

EN10083-3 30MnB5 alloy special steel plates are often used to manufacture parts of aircraft and military equipment, such as gears, shafts, and engine parts, due to their excellent wear resistance and fatigue resistance.

Construction and large - scale structure field:

EN10083-3 30MnB5 hot-rolled alloy steel plates can be used to manufacture structural parts of large - scale structures such as ships and bridges, providing necessary strength and stability for these large - scale structures.

Energy and power field

EN10083-3 30MnB5 alloyed heat-treatable steels can be used to make header of super heater in power station boilers, etc., and can also be used in power generation equipment, such as key parts of coal - fired, gas - fired and nuclear power generation equipment (similar to the use of other boilers and pressure vessels).

For example, after wind turbine gearbox components adopt this steel, the trouble-free operation time is increased to 25,000 hours, and the service life of drill pipe joints of oil and gas drilling equipment is extended by about 40% under the working condition of 150 MPa pressure and frequent make-and-break operations.

What is the heat treatment for 30mnb5?

30 MN B5 acquires high strength and hardness during heat treatment. The recommended heating temperature for hardening is 900° - 950° C and heating time 1 minute/mm of metal thickness. Quenching can be carried out with water, oil or synthetic medium. The greatest hardness is achieved with water.

What is the equivalent of 30MnB5?

Its closest equivalent is found in the EN10083-3:2006 grade 30MnB5. The difference is the carbon and chromium content. SB33M13B may serve as wear parts in for example graders and snow ploughs but also suitable for agriculture machinery.
