ASTM A656 Grade 80 is a high strength low alloy (HSLA) hot rolled steel. A656 Grade 80 offers improved formability, weldability, notch toughness and corrosion resistance compared to carbon steel. It is often selected for structural applications that require a strength-to-weight ratio and the ability to be easily welded and formed. These desirable properties are achieved through selected chemical composition and controlled grinding processing. Because A656 Grade 80 is stronger than mild steel, it can provide high strength in thinner sections at a lower weight. These features make it ideal for demanding structural applications such as construction equipment, crane jibs, truck frames and general manufacturing.
