ASTM A606-4 Weathering Steel
The ASTM A606 specification is a standard steel specification for high-strength, low-alloy, hot- and cold-rolled sheet and strip for structural and other applications with improved resistance to atmospheric corrosion. It is available in two types: ASTM A606 Type 4 has four times the atmospheric corrosion resistance of ordinary carbon structural steel plate. It has good weldability, formability, and can be machined after proper treatment.
ASTM A606-4 steel plate is produced unpainted for outdoor applications, which helps form an orange-brown oxide layer that prevents deep corrosion. It also offers the advantage of being 30% lighter than carbon steel, yet has the same high strength properties.

A606-4 corten steel sheet metal Products Details
ASTM 606 TYPE 4 Corrosion Resistant Steel Plate is made from weathering resistant steel (also known as HSLA). 4-gauge Corten steel plate plays an important role in weight reduction and corrosion resistance. Alloying elements such as copper, nickel, chromium and silicon are added to enhance the properties of the steel sheet. In particular, they increase corrosion resistance. Under atmospheric conditions such as ice, fog, rain and snow, an orange-brown oxide layer forms on the surface of the steel plate. This acts like a coating on the surface of the steel plate and therefore does not require painting and further protection. Dust and other harmful substances cannot penetrate the steel. They are also not affected. The unique property of these steel plates is higher strength. The wall thickness is very thin. They are stronger than ordinary carbon steel sheets. Their corrosion resistance index is 6.0.
