A70950W Corten Weathering Steel
ASTM A709 Grade 50W is a high-strength, low-alloy weathering structural steel. It is primarily used in the fabrication of bridges and heavy load-bearing structures.
Known for its enhanced atmospheric corrosion resistance, this weathering steel is engineered to develop a protective oxide outer layer (patina) when exposed to dry-wet cycles in the atmosphere.
With an atmospheric corrosion index of 6.00 or higher (calculated per ASTM G101), ASTM A709-50W offers significantly better corrosion resistance than conventional carbon steel with or without copper addition. When properly designed, it is highly suitable for use in the bare (unpainted) condition, lowering long-term maintenance costs and minimizing environmental impact.
