Hot-Dip Galvanized (GI) Round Bars are solid steel rods that have undergone a specialized thermal treatment. Through the Hot-Dip Galvanizing process, mild steel or structural grade bars are submerged in molten zinc at temperatures around 450°C (842°F).

Used in fencing and gates, furniture work, craft projects, making brackets, benches, shelves and frameworks. Steel round solid can also be used for repair work on caravans, trailers and farm machinery - the uses are limited only to your imagination.

This metallurgical reaction creates a multi-layered zinc-iron alloy coating that is chemically bonded to the steel surface. The result is a consistent galvanized finish that provides unparalleled durability and resistance to rust and atmospheric corrosion, even in the harshest environments.

Structural grade round dowels are friction cut to length, not cropped. They are available in a variety of standard, off-the-shelf sizes. Round dowels are manufactured from AS/NZS 3679.1 compliant Grade 300 steel, and are hot-dipped galvanised to AS/NZS 4680.

A: Yes. By using Grade 1 hot-dip galvanized steel, the bar meets the required cross-sectional area.

Calculation: The area for Φ8 is π×42=50.24mm². Since this exceeds the 50mm² regulatory threshold, it provides the necessary substance to resist long-term oxidation.

Q: Why do many Design Institutes specify Φ10 Galvanized Round Bar instead of Φ8?
A: While the code permits Φ8, actual market procurement often involves "negative tolerance" (bars being slightly thinner than stated). Specifying Φ10mm serves as a safety factor, ensuring that even with manufacturing tolerances, the actual cross-sectional area remains well above the legal limit for lightning protection.
