Astm A516 Gr 70n is a metal in a normalized condition. The Sa A516 Gr 70 is not subjected to the normalizing process.

The normalized A516 70n grade possesses superior ductility and toughness over the A516 70 Material.

 

Fine grained structural steel for pressure vessels. A516 Gr.70+N & SAGr.70N steel is characterised by good weldability and high resistance to brittle cracking. These types are used above all for manufacturing vessels for pressurised gas (LPG, butane and propane tanks), pressure vessels, parts for steam boilers, pressure piping, compressors, etc. Their most widespread use is in application environments lower than -20 ºC.

A516 Gr.70+N & SAGr.70Nsteel is supplied in the normalised condition. The normalising temperature is 900 - 950 ºC, and it must be left in the furnace after temperature equalising for approximately 1 minute per millimetre of thickness of the plate. As a result, it offers good cold-forming and hot-forming properties without negatively affecting the material properties.

GNEE STEEL is currently participating in the procurement phase of a 100,000m³ full containment ammonia storage tank project, supplying high-quality steel plates for critical tank components. Due to the corrosive nature of ammonia and the risk of Ammonia Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC), the project requires strict metallurgical control of materials according to EN 10028-3 standards.

 

One of the most important technical requirements of this project is the strict limitation of the actual Yield Strength (Re) for all NL2 grade materials. To prevent SCC risks in ammonia storage environments, the actual yield strength must not exceed 390 MPa, regardless of the nominal values specified in the standard or plate thickness ranges. This requirement places higher demands on steelmaking process control, heat treatment stability, and material testing.
